ST. LOUIS – No. 15 Louisville scored twice in the second quarter and added a late goal to defeat Saint Louis 3-0 Friday morning in nonconference field hockey action at the SLU Field Hockey Complex.
The Billikens fell to 0-3 on the season, while Louisville improved to 3-0.
Saint Louis kept the Cardinals off the scoreboard through the opening quarter before Gigi Edwards broke through at the 19:26 mark of the second quarter. Tyler Everslage added another Louisville goal less than five minutes later to give the Cardinals a 2-0 halftime advantage.
It was a 2-0 goal for the majority of the second half until Annabel Sep scored in the final seconds off a penalty corner to account for the final margin.
Goalkeeper Abby Schalow made 10 saves for the Billikens, while the Saint Louis defense also recorded a defensive save.
Louisville held a 25-1 advantage in shots and earned 10 penalty corners to Saint Louis' two.
The Billikens are back in action at the SLU Field Hockey Complex on Sunday, taking on the Mercyhurst Lakers in a 10 a.m. start.
