Box Score

ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis University women's soccer ended its six-match unbeaten streak with a 2-0 loss to Evansville tonight at Robert R. Hermann Stadium. The Purple Aces used aggressive, precision passes to spend much of the match in the Billiken defensive third. The Billiken defense staved off the attack for the first half before Krista McKendree broke the scoreless tie in the 58th minute.

Offensively, the Billikens could not generate many scoring opportunities. Play bogged down in the midfield and the physical Evansville back stymied SLU's speedy forwards.

McKendree scored the game winning goal with an unassisted 35-yard blast that caught Billiken keeper Meghann Burke (St. Louis, Mo./Mehlville) off her line. McKendree was all alone outside the top of the box and used the time to measure Burke. The ball sailed just over the finger tips of the leaping sophomore net-minder to put the Aces on top.

Trailing for the first time in seven matches, the Billiken offense bombarded the Evansville defense. Saint Louis ended up out-shooting the Aces 11-7 for the match as two Evansville keepers combined for four saves and the shutout. Twice the Aces made errors in their defensive third, but the Billikens could not capitalize.

With the entire Billiken defense pushed up, including Burke, the Aces scored again in the 89th minute when Kristin Prom took a cross from Jessica Schwartz. Burke came out to challenge the cross, but Prom was there to net the goal.

With the loss, Saint Louis falls to 9-2-1 on the season while Evansville improves to 8-4-1.

Saint Louis begins a four-game road trip on Fri., Oct. 6, with a 5 p.m. match at No. 23 Southern Methodist.
