DePaul Downs Billikens 3-1 Despite Triple-Double By Hunter

St. Louis - DePaul's Stephanie Bishop notched 22 kills and had 23 digs to offset a triple-double by Saint Louis' Colleen Hunter as DePaul moved past Saint Louis in Conference USA action on Friday. Game scores were 15-7, 8-15, 15-12, 15-6. The Blue Demons improve to 13-5, 4-2 C-USA while the Billikens drop to 6-10, 1-5 C-USA. Hunter had 16 kills, 12 digs and 10 blocks for the Billikens.

Holding a 6-5 lead in game one, the Blue Demons outscored the Billikens 7-1 and moved out to a 13-6 lead. A SLU error and a Bishop kill ended the game. The Billikens were held to a .000 hitting percentage with seven kills and seven errors. DPU's Bishop had six kills in the game. SLU grabbed the early lead in game two behind the play of Colleen Hunter who notched two kills and two blocks. The Billikens eventually led 12-7 and closed out the game with two Hunter kills and Shannan Swinney and Ember Knobeloch combined on a block to end the game at 15-8. The Bills tallied nine team blocks in the game. Game three saw each team post a big run. DePaul stormed out to a 10-2 but Saint Louis closed with seven-straight points to pull to 10-9. DPU edged out to a 12-9 margin, but SLU tied the game at 12-12. However, a DePaul kill followed by a SLU error and a DPU block gave DePaul a 2-1 game lead. With the score tied at 3-3 in game four, the Blue Demons scored five straight to take an 8-3 margin. DPU held a 13-4 lead and eventually won the game 15-6.

Melissa Nordine and Katie Engel both registered double-doubles for DePaul. Nordine had 12 kills and 21 digs while Engel added 12 kills and 14 digs. Kara Jakusz handed out 53 assists. Hunter's triple-double was the first by a Saint Louis player since Amy Scheller turned the trick on Sept. 4, 1998. Jessica Moss added 14 kills and 13 digs while Brooke Minniear led the Billikens with 15 digs. Setter Shannan Swiney set a new career-high with 45 assists.
