Billikens Rally To Post Key 3-2 Victory At Marquette

Milwaukee, Wis. - The Saint Louis Billiken volleyball team rallied from a 2-1 deficit to post an important 3-2 victory at Marquette in Conference USA play on Friday night. Game scores were 16-14, 7-15, 13-15, 15-11, 15-11. Jessica Moss and Cristal Leonard both notched double-doubles to lead the Bills. Moss had 10 kills and a match-high 19 digs while Leonard posted 11 kills to go along with 11 digs.

Marquette had four more kills than the Billikens in game one, but SLU outhit the Golden Eagles by a .250 to .175 margin to grab the early 1-0 lead. The tables were turned in the second game as the Bills had more kills than Marquette, but MU posted a 15-7 win. The Billikens struggled in game three but still had a chance to take the lead, but Marquette edged out a 15-13 margin. In game four, the Billikens pounded down a match-high 21 kills to extend the game to the rally-scored fifth game, 15-11. The Billikens forced Marquette to hit a match-low .074 in game five and posted an identical 15-11 win to take the match.

Colleen Hunter drilled a match-high 26 kills and added six blocks to go along with five digs. Ember Knobeloch smashed a career-high 18 kills and hit .324 to supplement the SLU attack. Beth Martin dished out 40 assists. For Marquette, Megan Markowski led the way with 20 kills and Ann Lopata paced MU with 17 digs.

The Billikens improve to 12-16, 6-9 in Conference USA play. Marquette falls to 7-21, 5-10 in the league. The Bilikens close out the regular-season on Saturday with a 7 p.m. match at DePaul.
