Charlotte setter Ozlem Ozkan registered her sixth triple-double of the season with 48 assists, 12 digs and 10 kills to lead Charlotte past Saint Louis 3-1 in Conference USA action on Friday night. Game scores were 15-11, 15-8, 12-15, 15-12. The 49ers improve to 12-16 overall, 6-8 in C-USA. The Billikens drop to 11-15, 5-9 in the league.
Charlotte's Jennifer Smith drilled eight kills and hit .615 in the first game to give the 49ers a 15-11 win. In game two, the Billikens led 8-7, but Charlotte tallied eight-consecutive points to win game two 15-8. The 49ers hit .478 in the game while the Billikens managed a .000 hitting percentage. With game three tied at 11-11, Saint Louis staved off elimination by scoring four of the last five points and took a 15-12 decision. The Billikens sprinted out to a 10-4 lead in game four and appeared ready to force a decisive fifth game, but the 49ers tallied seven-straight points and moved on for a 15-12 win to clinch the match.
Colleen Hunter had a match-high 20 kills and added 11 digs to pace Saint Louis. Senior outside hitter Jessica Moss, in her final home appearance, had a double-double with 14 kills and a match-high 15 digs. Ember Knobeloch added 10 kills while Brooke Minniear had 11 digs. Setter Shannan Swiney passed out 47 assists. For Charlotte, Christy Galvin led the way with 18 kills and Jennifer Smith contributed 17 kills and six blocks. Esra Akgun tallied 15 kills and Kathleen Ramos dug up 12 balls.
