IOWA CITY, IOWA -
Saint Louis University women's soccer rallied to tie the score early in the second half, before falling 2-1 in overtime at Iowa this afternoon. Sophomore Kathy Musschoot (Chicago, Ill./Barrington) tied the score in the 51st minute with her third goal of the season. Iowa's Kate Walse scored both Hawkeye goals, including the game winner in the 110th minute.
The Billikens dominated play in the first half, outshooting Iowa 14-7, but could not finish their scoring opportunities. Walse put the Hawkeyes on the board first with a seven-yard strike in the 27th minute. Musschoot hit the equalizer from five yards out off a pass from sophomore Shannon Myers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota West).
Both keepers were pressed in the match as the Bills' Meghann Burke (St. Louis, Mo./Mehlville) recorded eight saves, while Iowa's Liz Hendel made 15 stops, 12 in the first half alone.
Walse scored the game winner in the 100th minute when Linzy Wolman's shot led her five yards out in front of the goal. It was only the fifth goal scored on Burke this season.
With the loss, the Billikens fall to 4-1-0 on the season, with Conference USA action just around the corner. Saint Louis travels to Tulane on Fri., Sept. 15, for a 5 p.m. match.
