Saint Louis University women's soccer posted a 5-1 over Southwest Missouri State tonight in Springfield, Mo. Sophomore forward Mandy Trokey (St. Louis, Mo./Notre Dame) had a foot on three of the Billiken goals, including the game winner in the 17th minute. With the win, the Billikens improve to 4-0-0 on the season.
The Billikens were on the board first when sophomore Kathy Musschoot (Chicago, Ill./Palatine) took a long lead pass from Trokey and pushed it past SMS keeper Jennifer Grocki from six yards out in the ninth minute.
Eight minutes later, Trokey's game winner made it a 2-0 lead. The goal came on a six-yard volley off a pass from Megan McNiff (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu). SMS defender April Lee volleyed one past SLU keeper Meghann Burke (St. Louis, Mo./Mehlville) in the 22nd minute to cut the lead in half. Trokey again went to goal in the 51st minute with a right-to-left drive from 12 yards out.
Freshman Anne Lucier (Dallas, Texas/Ursuline) recorded her first goal of the season in the 81st minute with a 15-yard strike on an assist from junior back Melissa Gossman (Leawood, Kan./St. Thomas Aquinas). Musschoot scored her second goal of the game in the 87th minute after beating the keeper.
Saint Louis continues its road trip on Sun., Sept. 10, with a 1 p.m. match at Iowa.
