Sacramento Selects Jeffers in NBA's 2nd Round

June 27, 2001

St. Louis - Saint Louis University senior guard Maurice Jeffers (Morrilton, Ark. / Morrilton) was selected by the Sacramento Kings in the second round of tonight's National Basketball Association Draft in New York City. The 6-foot-4, 195-pound swingman was the 54th pick overall.

A second-team Conference USA All-Conference selection, Jeffers was the Billikens' leading scorer and rebounder and was named the team's Most Valuable Player. Jeffers finished the regular season ranked 10th in scoring in C-USA at 15.7 points per game and 14th in the league in rebounding at 6.1 rebounds per game. He also reached the free thow line more than any C-USA player where he connected on 144 of 183 attempts to finish ninth in C-USA in free throw percentage at .787

Jeffers is the first Billiken to be selected in the NBA draft since Larry Hughes went to Philadelphia as the 76ers' first round pick in 1998. He became the second Billiken to be selected by the Kings, who took Anthony Bonner in the 1990 draft's first round.
