Saint Louis Field Hockey Begins West Coast Swing With NorPac Rival Pacific

Oct. 19, 2002

Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific Tigers field hockey team broke an 11 game losing streak on Saturday, Oct. 19 as the Tigers defeated Saint Louis University 2-0. With the win, Pacific improves to 2-11 on the season and 1-3 in the NorPac conference, while the Billikens fall to 1-12 overall and 0-4 in conference.

Pacific took control of the game early as junior Alexandra Fiorina scored her first of two goals in the game, less than three minutes in at the 2:42 mark. Fiorina took a pass for senior Nicolette Wiegand and redirected it into the back of the net, putting the Tigers up 1-0.

Just under ten minutes later, Fiorina and the Tigers struck again at the 12:02 mark of the first half as Fiorina took the ball from senior Ashley Murin then scored her fifth goal of the season.

With the first two goal lead of the season, the Tiger defense was able to hold down the Billiken attack, as Pacific held Saint Louis to three shots and collected its first shutout of the season.

The Billikens will be back in action on Monday, Oct. 21, as they meet Pacific in a second match in a NorPac conference game at 3:30 p.m.
