Cole's Triple Not Enough at TCU

FT. WORTH, Texas - Saint Louis University men's soccer played to a 3-3 at TCU this afternoon in Conference USA action. The Billikens got three goals from Jason Cole, but TCU capitalized on a defense shaken by an early injury to goalkeeper Martin Hutton.

"We're certainly disappointed with the result of this game because it is the type of game that could come back and haunt us as the end of the year," Saint Louis head coach Dan Donigan said. "Under difficult circumstances, a few players had a let down in their play, which hurt us. We have to quickly learn from this outcome, though, and work to get back to our level of play against DePaul."

The Billikens struck first in the ninth minute when Kevin Wickart's cross found Cole, who out-leapt everyone to send a header to the back post. Moments later, Hutton went down with an injury and was replaced by Jeff Sackman. The redshirt freshman was solid throughout the half, but the teams went into the break tied on a Billiken own goal.

The Horned Frogs took the lead on Andrew Porteous' goal in the 63rd minute, only to be answered by Cole. Senior Jack Jewsbury got the ball off a throw-in and sent it in for Cole to one-time it into the side netting for the equalizer in the 76th minute.

The Horned Frogs were primed for an upset as they again took the lead in the waning minutes of the game. Chris Carman took the ball deep into the right corner and chipped it to the near post where John Morrell got a head on it to put the Frogs up 3-2. Displaying the heroics he has become known for, Cole completed his hat trick with another header off a Mike Kirchhoff serve in the 89th minute to send the game into OT.

Both teams showed exhaustion as play was sloppy throughout both overtime periods. Each club got off four shots, but little was dangerous enough to decide the game.

The Billikens out-shot the Frogs 25-11 and earned nine corners to TCU's four. Sackman picked up six saves in his 99 minutes of work, while TCU's Michael Lahoud posted 11.

Saint Louis (9-3-2, 4-2-1 C-USA) is back in action on Wed., Oct. 30, at Robert R. Hermann Stadium when the Billikens will take on DePaul at 7 p.m.
