St. Louis Trio Signs with Soccer Bills

Feb. 20, 2002

St. Louis - Saint Louis University men's soccer head Dan Donigan today announced that Kyle Hopson (St. Louis, Mo. / Oakville), Cooper McKee (St. Louis, Mo. / Chaminade) and Danny Wynn (St. Louis, Mo. / Chaminade) have signed National Letters of Intent to attend the University and play for the Billikens. Each will have four years of eligibility beginning with the 2002 fall semester.

"With the nine talented individuals that we lost off last year's NCAA quarterfinal team, we needed to bring student-athletes with special qualities to our program," Donigan said. "Kyle, Cooper and Danny are the foundation of a recruiting class that will complement our returning players. They all have trained and competed at high levels prior to coming to SLU, which will make for a great transition."

Hopson led Oakville to the Missouri Class 4A championship in 2000 and a runner-up finish in 2001. An All-Midwest Region selection, he produced 18 goals and 17 assists in his senior season. The midfielder finished his career with 47 goals and 36 assists. He was a St. Louis Post-Dispatch All-Metro selection.

"Kyle is versatile and extremely technical with great attacking capabilities," Donigan said. "He should help us in the attacking third of the field. His competitive nature is second to none and his willingness to compete and work will allow him to excel at this level."

An All-Midwest Region performer at 2001 Missouri Class 4A state champion Chaminade, McKee tallied 14 goals and one assist in his senior campaign.

"Cooper has all the physical tools to make a smooth transition to the NCAA Division I level," Donigan said. "He brings a great work ethic and should make an immediate impact deep in our midfield or on our frontline."

Wynn scored seven goals and dished out 27 assists from his wide right midfield position for Chaminade last season. He also was a Post-Dispatch All-Metro selection.

"Danny has tremendous attacking qualities," Donigan said. "He should be a great addition to our wide midfield positions. He has the ability to beat players on a consistent basis. Every team needs players that can break down defenses, and he does that routinely."

Donigan expects to add three more signees to round out this recruiting class.
