Softballers Sink Southeast Missouri 4-2

Cape Girardeau, Mo. - The Saint Louis softball team pounded out nine hits en route to winning game one of a doubleheader 4-2 at Southeast Missouri State on Tuesday. Game two was started, but called in the first due to rain in Cape Girardeau. The victory guarantees the first winning season for the softball team since 1987. The Billikens have won four straight and improve to 21-15 on the season. Southeast Missouri State fell to 14-25.

The Billikens pushed across two runs in the third inning to grab the early lead. Melissa Quist singled to leadoff and moved to second on a sac bunt by Ashlee Heady. Quist stole second and scored on a throwing error by SEMO's catcher. Beth Yagge singled in Beth Yagge had two hits and an RBI.

SLU is next in action this weekend in its final Conference USA series at East Carolina. The Billikens will play a doubleheader in Greenville, N.C. on Saturday beginning at Noon (CT). A single game is slated for Sunday at Noon (CT).
