Saint Louis took to the turf in Boone,N.C., today and dominated the first half of action against NorPac rival Appalachian State. Head coach Maria Whitehead applauded junior forward Ellen Rapp's hard work in creating plays. On the defensive side, sophomore Jill Mueller made several interceptions forcing sophomore keeper Julie Moeckel to make just four saves on the day.
Second half play was more balanced between the two teams with ASU earning seven penalty corners to six for the Billikens. The Mountaineers had five saves to the Billikens four.
Whitehead witnessed a ferocious final minute of action as the Billikens drove into the Mountaineers territory with Rapp's final attempt to score being thwarted in the final five seconds of the match.
Freshman Michelle Sinclair sent the ball ahead to senior Lindsay Lombardo scoring for the Bills. Nara Brookes and Erica Muschamp made the unassisted goals for the Mountaineers.
Saint Louis falls to 0-2 on the year and will face Appalachian State again tomorrow afternoon in Boone.
