Box Score

St. Louis - Saint Louis shut out Lindenwood 1-0 tonight in a men's soccer exhibition match at Robert R. Hermann Stadium. Billiken freshman forward Larry Geraghty notched the winner in the 71st minute.

"It was another good exhibition game for us, because Lindenwood is a talented team that tries to play and forced us to keep our shape and be disciplined," Billikens head coach Dan Donigan said. "We need to improve in the attacking third, but that's always a concern just about every year. I'm pleased with this team's work ethic, attitude and where it stands at this point."

After some hard work down the left flank by senior midfielder Danny Wynn, Geraghty connected on a four-yard side volley off Wynn's pass. Geraghty made up for an earlier miscue in the second half when he misfired on a perfect centering pass from 10 yards while unmarked.

In a scoreless first half that the Billikens dominated heavily in possession time, each team had one great chance. In the 31st minute, Lions midfielder Pedro Chain broke in on SLU keeper David Greathouse, who smothered the ball as both players collided. Greathouse had to leave the game with an injury. In the 41st minute, Bills freshman midfielder Dado Hamzagic shrugged off an LU defender, collected a long ball out of the back and broke in on Lions keeper Bryce Flynn. Hamzagic took too much time, and the LU defense recovered to clear the ball. The shots were even at 2-2 at the break.

Saint Louis posted its second consecutive preseason shutout by limiting the Lions to just four shots. SLU sophomore Pat Disbennett finished up the shutout by making three saves. The Bills had a 10-1 edge on corner kicks.

Saint Louis concludes its exhibition schedule by hosting Butler on Sat., Aug. 27, at 7 p.m.
