Billikens and Bulldogs Play to Scoreless Draw

Aug. 27, 2005

Final Stats

St. Louis - Saint Louis and Butler played to a 0-0 tie tonight in a men's soccer exhibition match before 3,406 fans at Robert R. Hermann Stadium. Billikens keepers Pat Disbennett and Jeff Sackman combined to make four saves as the Bills were unscored upon in three preseason games.

Disbennett kept the match scoreless in the 36th minute, stopping back-to-back 10-yard attempts by Bulldogs freshman forward Frank Patano. Disbennett stopped the first shot with a foot, and the ball rebounded to Patano. He collected the ball and tried to sneak it to the other side of the net, which Disbennett dived to corral. Senior Jeff Sackman relieved Disbennett at intermission and recorded one save in his first action of the preseason.

The teams traded chances in the opening minutes of the second half. Butler's John DeVae looped a ball that Sackman easily handled. SLU sophomore midfielder Zack Przybeck put a ball just wide of the post. SLU sophomore midfielder Andrew Reeder had a 20-yard attempt kicked away by a BU defender midway through the second half. Making his first appearance after arriving from England Friday afternoon, freshman forward Kyle Patterson had an opportunity deflected over the cross bar in the 72nd minute.

SLU out-shot Butler 7-6, but the Bulldogs had 4-3 edge in corners. BU keeper Frank Peabody made two saves to record his shutout.

Saint Louis begins the regular season by hosting UMKC on Thu., Sept. 1, at 7 p.m.
