Billikens Earn Split in Thursday's Action at Rebel Spring Games

March 16, 2006

Fairfield Box Score | Cleveland State Box Score

Kissimmee, Fla. - Saint Louis topped Fairfield 2-1 on Thursday at the Rebel Spring Games but had to settle for a split after dropping an 8-3 decision against Cleveland State in the nightcap.

SLU (5-12) took advantage of several Fairfield (8-6) miscues in the first game. After Fairfield jumped out to the early lead, the Bills plated two unearned runs in the third inning after the Stags committed one of their five errors in the game.

Against Cleveland State (11-3), it was the Billikens who were plagued by defensive miscues. SLU committed five errors in the contest that resulted in six unearned runs.

After SLU cut Cleveland State's lead to 2-1, the Vikings exploded for six runs before the Billikens attempted to rally in the bottom of the seventh. AshLeigh Williams singled to lead off the inning then was driven home after Logan Justice stroked her second triple of the season. Jody Herbert notched her first RBI of the year when she drove home Justice on a single to left field. But that was all the Billikens' offense could muster before falling 8-3.

SLU wraps up the Rebel Spring Games on Fri., Mar. 17, in a double header with Bucknell beginning at 7:50 a.m. (CT).
