Game One Box Score | Game Two Box Score

Martin, Tenn. - Saint Louis ended up on the losing end of two pitcher's duals and were swept by host Tennessee-Martin on Wednesday in non-conference softball action at Bettye Giles Field in Martin, Tenn. Ashton Strode paced the Skyhawks to a 3-0 win in the first game, and Ashley Myatt blanked the Billikens 1-0 in the nightcap. The Billikens (15-20) had chances to score, but stranded a total of 15 runners in the twinbill.

In game one, Tennessee-Martin (26-19-1) scored all the runs it would need in the fourth inning. With one out, Emily Webb singled through the left side and advanced to second when Lauren Manna reached on a walk. Stacey Weaver shot a two-out double to left to plate Webb and make the score 1-0. Manna made it 2-0 when she came around to score after Christy Webb singled up the middle. Manna added the third run when she stole home as part of a double steal.

Meanwhile, Strode was able to limit the Billiken offense to just four hits in the game. She struck out eight Bills and walked three.

SLU managed a base runner in every inning but the seventh, and had its best chance halted in the top of the fourth after Logan Justice and Kara Sell each reached on singles.

Lorena Floccari was dealt the loss for SLU after giving up three runs on seven hits. She struck out five Skyhawks and walked only two.

Justice ended the game 2-for-3, and AshLeigh Williams also had a hit for the Billikens.

It was a similar story in game two as SLU just could not convert on several chances to score. The Billikens put a runner on base in every inning and got another quality performance in the circle from Floccari but still came out on the losing end.

UT-Martin plated the only run of the game in the bottom of the sixth when Brandy Whalen, who singled to lead off the inning, scored on a Stacey Weaver double.

SLU banged out six hits, including a career-high two from freshman Rachel Heet, but stranded eight runners in the game.

Myatt went the distance for the Skyhawks and struck out three batters. Floccari lost her eighth one-run game of the season after allowing a run on eight hits and recording five strikeouts.

SLU will be back at it on Fri., Apr. 14, when they entertain fellow Atlantic 10 Conference newcomer Charlotte. First pitch in game one of the doubleheader is slated for 4 p.m. at The Billiken Sports Center.
