St. Louis -
Saint Louis head men's soccer coach Dan Donigan today announced that Patrick Hadican (St. Louis, Mo. / Chaminade), Kyle Hayes (St. Louis, Mo. / Christian Bros.) and Sean Long (Schaumburg, Ill. / Schaumburg) have all accepted the University's written offers of admission and will join the Billikens' program. All three will have four years of eligibility beginning with the 2006-07 academic year.
"This is the deepest class that we have brought in since our current junior class arrived in 2003," Donigan said. "These kids are all smart players who understand the game and have solid technical skills. They are intensely competitive, and we expect them to help raise our level of play."
Hadican is the third member of his family to play for the Billikens. His father, Denny (1970-73), played on the Bills' 1970, '72 and '73 NCAA championship teams. His brother, Brian (1997-2000), is on the current SLU coaching staff and played on four Conference USA championship teams, including the 1997 national semifinalist. A midfielder/back, Patrick played two seasons at Christian Brothers College High School before transferring to Chaminade. He sat out his junior year before playing his senior season for the Red Devils.
Hayes also has family ties to the program. His father, John (1978-81), is one of SLU's top 10 all-time leading scorers. Kyle's twin sister, Ashley, will play for SLU's women's team this fall. Kyle was the second-leading scorer with 26 points (9G, 8A) for CBC, which captured the 2005 state championship. He was an honorable mention St. Louis Post-Dispatch All-Metro pick. He played club soccer for Scott Gallagher.
In his three-year career as Schaumburg High School's goalkeeper, Long posted a 0.96 goals against average. During his senior season, he recorded a 0.84 GAA and five shutouts. As the keeper for the EG Arsenal of Illinois Under-18 club team, Long led Arsenal to NISL Premiership League championships in 2004 and 2005.
This group joins a recruiting class that already includes striker Jimmy Holmes (St. Louis, Mo. / Priory), goalkeeper Ross Kaufman (Louisville, Ky. / Dupont Manual), midfielder Tim Ream (St. Louis, Mo. / St. Dominic), midfielder Simeon Steward (Redlands, Calif. / Redlands), defender Rob Viviano (Orange, Calif. / Orange Lutheran) and midfielder/forward Scott Wisniewski (Dallas, Texas / Edward S. Marcus).
