Game One Box Score | Game Two Box Score
ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis dropped both ends of a doubleheader against Evansville in non-conference softball action today at The Billiken Sports Center. In game one, six different players posted at least one RBI to power Evansville (20-24) to a 7-0 win. In the second game, Cassey Kemna and Lissa Fehlman both drove in three runs to lead the Purple Aces to a 7-4 win.
Evansville's Jacki Bradley and Danny Murphy combined for a five-hit shutout in the first game. Bradley threw the first three innings and limited the Billikens (16-29) to only three hits. Murphy mowed down the Bills in the final four innings, allowing only two hits while striking out eight.
Elisabeth Mooney paced the consistent Evansville offense with a 3-for-4, two RBI performance. Alicia Laraway went 2-for-2 with an RBI and scored twice. For the Billikens, Jody Herbert singled twice and Jill Pursell, Ashlee Heady and AshLeigh Williams all poked singles.
In game two, SLU cracked the scoreboard for the first time in the third inning. Down 1-0, SLU led off the frame with three-straight base hits, the third coming off the bat of Heady to plate Pursell. After Williams was intentionally walked to load the bases, Lorena Floccari delivered an RBI single to plate Christy Ernst and give the Billikens at 2-1 lead.
But Evansville responded with two runs in the fourth to take back the lead, and expanded its lead to 5-2 when Kemna blasted her first career home run, a two-run shot to right center off of SLU hurler Ashley Levan. Fehlman tacked on two more runs in the top of the seventh with a two-run triple to stretch the Evansville lead to 7-2.
SLU rallied in the seventh. Allison Appenfeller reached on an error, then was pinch-ran for by Jess Burns. After a Pursell single and an Ernst groundout, Heady drove in both Burns and Pursell with a two-out single to left center to cut the Purple Aces lead to 7-4. But that is as close as the Bills would get as Ashley Hobbs struck out the final batter to secure the sweep.
The Billikens are back in action on Wed., Apr. 26, when they welcome Western Illinois to The BSC. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 2 p.m.
