Box Score

St. Louis - Ninth-ranked South Florida blanked No. 25 Saint Louis 2-0 tonight in a men's exhibition soccer match at Robert R. Hermann Stadium. Senior forward Hunter West broke the deadlock early in the second half, and All-Big East forward Jordan Seabrook added the insurance marker late.

"You always like to win no matter if it is a preseason game, a regular season game or a league championship match, but we wanted to see a lot of people tonight and work on a regular rotation," Billikens head coach Dan Donigan said. "I have a much better idea about that after tonight. As for the outcome, the difference was that we had more opportunities and didn't finish, while they did capitalize on a couple chances."

The Billikens controlled the play throughout the first half and enjoyed an 8-2 edge in shots. Only USF keeper Dane Brenner denied SLU from taking a commanding lead. In the 14th minute, Bills forward Kyle Patterson broke in the left flank, beating the Bulls' offside trap, but Brenner stoned him. The left post came to USF's rescue in the 15th minute as SLU midfielder Kyle Patterson bounced a 10-yard shot squarely off the frame. Brenner made the stops of the night consecutively in the 39th minute as the Bulls' keeper blocked Andrew Reeder's 15-yard blast and then dived to turn away Tim Ream's rebound from 18 yards.

After Brenner denied SLU forward Andrew Reeder's, the Bulls countered and senior forward Hunter West scored on a tap-in at the right post in the 47th minute. The ball quickly went up through Joey Brown on the left flank to Seabrook, who found West unmarked at the goal line. Seabrook ended any suspense at 79:15 by roofing a four-yard volley as Joris Claessens picked up the assist.

Saint Louis dominated the statistical battle by out-shooting the Bulls 12-5 with a 4-1 edge on corner kicks. Brenner finished with seven saves for the Bulls, while SLU's Nick Billman made one stop.

Saint Louis opens the regular season by hosting Illinois-Chicago on Sat., Aug. 26, in a 7 p.m. start.
