Box Score

Mount Pleasant, Mich. - Jacklyn McGranahan scored a goal and assisted on another to lift Saint Louis to a 3-0 victory over Central Michigan in non-conference field hockey action Sunday afternoon. With the win, Saint Louis salvaged a split in the two-match set with the Chippewas and improved to 2-1. It was the first loss of the season for CMU, which falls to 2-1.

McGranahan put the Billikens on the board just under three minutes into the contest. She collected a rebound off of CMU keeper Danielle Frank and quickly one timed it into the back of the cage for her first goal of the season.

Kristin Lueders made it 2-0 with a goal in the 17th minute. After gathering a loose ball, she maneuvered through three CMU defenders and fired a shot past Frank for her team-leading second goal of the season.

Freshman Molly Boyne notched her first-career goal on a strike late in the match. McGranahan, who was credited with an assist on the play, sent a pass that was corralled by Boyne. She poked a ball that went past Frank and into the cage to improve the Billiken lead to 3-0.

Meanwhile, the SLU defense prevented any legitimate scoring chances for the Chippewas. Wasserman, who earned her second shutout of the season, was tested twice in the match on penalty corners and kicked aside both chances. The Billikens denied CMU on a total of 13 penalty corners, including eight in the second half.

In all, Saint Louis out-shot the Chippewas 19-16. Lueders and Mary Henry each had two shots on goal.

The Billikens, who are in the midst of a five-game road trip, travel to Muncie, Ind., to take on Pacific (Cal.) on Fri., Sept. 8. SLU stays in Muncie to face host Ball State the following day.
