Vouyoukas Inks With Greek Pro Squad

July 9, 2007

Former Saint Louis University center Ian Vouyoukas (Athens, Greece) has signed a three-year contract with Olympiakos BC in the A1 Greek Basketball League. Olympiakos finished 21-5 last season and reached the league's championship game.

"I am excited to sign with a premier European team and one of the top teams in Greece," Vouyoukas said. "Olympiakos is a team I supported when I was growing up, and it is a privilege to play for them. I feel that I will have the opportunity to excel in basketball and pursue a lengthy career while being close to my family in my home country. I want to thank Saint Louis University for its support over the last four years and wish the team great success in the future."

Vouyoukas averaged 12.4 ppg and a team-high 7.4 rpg this past season. He finished his career 20th on SLU's all-time scoring list with 1,046 points and 15th in career rebounding with 640. Vouyoukas set the school record for blocks with 135 during his career.

Olympiakos BC is one of the oldest and most tradition-rich clubs in Europe. It owns nine championship titles in the Greek league, seven Greek Cups and one Euroleague title. FIBA selected Olympiakos BC as the best team in Europe in the 1990s.
