Senior Jacklyn McGranahan tallied a hat trick and had a hand in every Saint Louis goal as the Billikens beat Bellarmine 5-0 in field hockey action at the Anheuser-Busch Center on Saturday.
McGranahan scored in the fourth minute of play for the only score the Billikens would need. SLU earned a penalty corner and touches by Kelsey Shultz and Christine Frampus led to the 1-0 lead. The Billikens pressed forward and earned a corner in the 25th minute of play. After a scramble in front of the Bellarmine cage, Sarah Lohmann launched a shot into the goal with McGranahan and Alex Weber picking up assists. Four minutes before halftime, McGranahan fed Molly Boyne a ball up the middle, and Boyne launched a shot shot for a 3-0 Billiken margin.
At the 39:03 mark of the tilt, McGranahan picked up an errand BU pass and dribbled down the middle of the field. She placed the ball low into the right corner as the Billiken margin grew to 4-0. On the last SLU goal, Stephanie Ertzberger took a long shot from the middle of the circle which was saved in front of the Bellarmine goal. However, McGranahan collected the rebound and drilled it into the cage for the hat trick. On the day, she had three goals, two assists and finished with eight points.
The Billiken defense kept the Knights in check, holding BU to just six shots. Alex LaBarge kept BU off the board in the first half, and Katherine Deem finished the blanking with two saves in the second half.
The Billikens improve to 4-6, while the Knights fall to 4-6. The Billikens take a break before beginning Atlantic 10 Conference play at Massachusetts on October 12.
