Septien Victory Lifts Bills, Elmore Sets Record

ST. LOUIS - Sarah Septien's narrow win at No. 4 singles gave Saint Louis women's tennis a 4-3 triumph over Arkansas State Friday at Dwight Davis Tennis Center.

Hailee Elmore established the SLU record for singles victories in a season, vanquishing Elne Barnard 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1. Elmore's win was the 28th of her junior campaign, one more than previous record-holder Julie Siemers collected in the 1998-99 season. She is 19-1 in dual matches this spring after compiling a 9-2 mark in fall competition.

With the match tied 3-3, Septien came through with a 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (7-3) victory over Menna Kamal that boosted the Billikens' record to 13-7. Kasia Tomalak defeated Ioana Teu 6-0, 6-4 at No. 5, while Mia Elmore was a 6-2, 6-3 winner over Andreea Georgescu at No. 6.

Elsewhere in singles, Jenny Herring downed Casey Miller 6-2, 2-6, 6-0 at No. 2, and Rone van Wyk topped Jenny Nalepa 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3.

Arkansas State (6-8) won the doubles point. Barnard and van Wyk got past Miller and Nalepa 8-4 at No. 1, while Herring and Kamal edged Septien and Hailee Elmore and Tomalak outlasted Teu and Tina Ojdanic 8-6 at No. 2.

Saint Louis is idle until the Atlantic 10 Championship, which the Billikens will host at Dwight Davis Tennis Center April 23-25.
