Saint Louis suffered its second straight Atlantic 10 Conference loss, and fourth consecutive defeat overall Saturday afternoon as Fordham downed the Bills 5-2 at Bahoshy Field in Bronx, N.Y.
Fordham (30-8 overall, 6-2 A-10) raced out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Erin Fisher sparked the rally with a one-out double up the middle. Beckah Wiggins drew a walk before Jamie LaBovick smacked an RBI single to center field for the first run. Samantha Pellechio added an RBI double to center field to make it 2-0. A Billiken error plated the third run and a ground out by the Rams pushed the lead out to 4-0.
LaBovick began Fordham's half of the third with a single to third base. One out later, Meghan Shager reached on an infield single. A ground out put both runners in scoring position before Jessica Richards plated LaBovick with a single to left field to extend the advantage to 5-0.
Saint Louis (18-16 overall, 6-2 A-10) finally got on the board in the top of the fifth. Kristain Burger kicked off the inning with a leadoff double to right center. Then Rachel Faletto recorded a two-run homer to trim the margin to 5-2. Liz Jones followed the long-bomb with a single down the right-field line. But she remained stranded at first as Fordham starter Jen Mineau retired the next three Billikens in order.
