Women's Tennis Splits on Day One of A-10 Championship

BELLEVILLE, Ill. - Hailee Elmore captured a come-from-behind victory at No. 1 singles, but defending champion and second-seeded Richmond advanced to the Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championship semifinals with a 4-1 victory over the Billikens Friday at Kings Point Sports Club.

The Billikens (14-8), seeded seventh, will face sixth-seeded Massachusetts in the semifinals of the fifth-place bracket Saturday. Match time is 11:30 a.m. at Sunset Tennis Center. All Saturday tournament matches will be played indoors, with action beginning at 8 a.m. at Sunset Tennis Center and Kings Point Sports Club.

After Richmond took a 2-0 lead by winning the doubles point and the No. 2 singles match, Elmore came through with a 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 win against Erin Clark. But the Spiders, who have claimed five of the last six conference titles, collected straight-sets triumphs at Nos. 4 and 5 singles to advance to Saturday's semifinals.

Saint Louis advanced to the quarterfinals with a 4-0 first-round victory over 10th-seeded Dayton. The Bills won the doubles point, with Casey Miller and Jenny Nalepa defeating Julie Kirkland and Loni Dickerhoof 9-8 (7-4) at No. 1, and Elmore and Kasia Tomalak downing Laina Grote and Molly Mathews 8-2 at No. 2. In singles, Elmore overcame Kirkland 7-5, 6-2 at No. 1, Miller toppled Dickerhoof 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2, and Nalepa breezed past Grote 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3.
