Box Score

WASHINGTON, D.C. - George Washington ended the game on a 19-8 rally and upended Saint Louis 52-46 Saturday afternoon in Atlantic 10 Conference men's basketball action at the Charles E. Smith Center.

Saint Louis falls to 7-13 overall and 2-5 in the A-10, while George Washington moves to 11-10 and 4-3 in league play.

SLU, which led 52-46 at halftime, was hampered by a 28.6-percent shooting mark in the second half. The Billikens went more than 10 minutes without a field goal, and George Washington capitalized by hitting 44.4 percent of its shots in the second stanza.

Guards Kyle Cassity and Mike McCall led the Billikens with 10 points apiece, while forward Rob Loe scored eight points. Tony Taylor led GW with a game-high 19 points, while Dwayne Smith recorded a double-double with 13 points and 13 boards.

SLU utilized a 7-0 run midway through the first half to put the Billikens on top 17-8 with 10:06 left in the opening half. McCall scored on a put back, and a Brian Conklin drive but the Bills on top 14-8. Cassity capped the rally with a 3-pointer to give the Billikens a nine-point cushion.

GW chipped away at its deficit with seven-straight point, with the last two coming on an alley-oop dunk by David Pellom off a Talylor pass. SLU led by just one at that point, but regained control when Cassity hit five-straight points and Loe connected on a free throw to make it 25-18 with five minutes left in the first half.

Jordair Jett hit a runner and Loe buried a mid-range jumper to give the Billikens a 29-25 lead at halftime.

Loe opened the scoring for the Billikens in the second half with a trey from the left elbow, but GW's Smith scored the first three buckets for the Colonials as they trimmed their deficit to one at 34-33 with 17:54.

The Billiken defense shut down the Colonials as they wouldn't score another basket until 11:16, but SLU only led by two at 38-36.

George Washington would then go on a 15-1 run to take control of the game. SLU's next field goal, a trey by McCall, wouldn't come until there was 1:11 remaining.

The Billikens return to action Wednesday, Feb. 2, when they welcome Massachusetts to Chaifetz Arena for a 7 p.m. tip. The game will be televised on CCIN in St. Louis.
