ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis head men's
basketball coach Rick Majerus today
announced that 6-foot-6 forward Jared
Drew (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) has
signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University and play for the
Billikens. He begins his four years of eligibility next season.
Drew is entering his senior season at Cathedral High
School in Indianapolis. Last season, he helped the Irish post a 17-4 record.
Drew plays on the AAU circuit with Indiana Elite One.
"Jared is a player who our fans will consider similar to
sophomore forward Dwayne Evans in
athletic ability," Majerus said. "He is longer but will play with the same
passion. Jared can be a defensive stopper extraordinaire, a well-versed
rebounder and someone who can knock down a three. He has a 6-foot-10 wingspan
and plays for a successful program coached by Andy Fagan at Cathedral High
School in Indianapolis.
"The best part of Jared coming to Saint Louis, however,
is that he comes from a terrific family," Majerus said. "His mother, Diane, and
father, James, are nurses. His family holds the expectation of educational
excellence in high regard. Jared is a winner on and off the court and an honor
roll student at Cathedral, and we expect him to continue that tradition at
Saint Louis University. We are excited as a coaching staff and as a team. Our
players will embrace and welcome him because they sense he can contribute both
on and off the court to their successful seasons and careers."
Drew is the first signee of the 2012-13 recruiting
class. Additional signees will be announced as NLIs are received.
