Box Score MILWAUKEE - Saint Louis kept Milwaukee off the scoreboard for
almost 65 minutes, but the Panthers tallied three goals down the stretch and
defeated the Billikens 3-0 Sunday afternoon in the finale of the Milwaukee Cup.
Senior
midfielder Colleen Kustura was named to the All-Tournament team.
Milwaukee
(4-0-0) broke through at the 64:47 mark, with Kelly Lewers scoring off a Morgan
LaPlant assist.
At 79:37, junior
back Maggie Baumann fired a shot on goal in an attempt to pull the
Billikens even. But Milwaukee goalkeeper Jamie Forbes made one of her four
saves to preserve the Panthers' slim lead.
Soon after that,
the hosts made it 2-0 as Laurel Ragalie (Makenzie Gillaspie) scored at 82:17. Sarah
Hagen (Keara Thompson) added an insurance goal at 86:10.
The Billikens
(1-2-0) almost took the lead midway through the first half. Junior back Emily
Viviano's shot hit the crossbar, and freshman forward Abbey Stock
collected the rebound and launched a shot of her own. Forbes, however, made a
save to keep the game in a 0-0 deadlock.
Junior
goalkeeper Katie Walsh made two first-half saves and four more in the
second half, the first of which came just 10 seconds into the period. Walsh
also turned away Milwaukee shots on frame in the 51st, 53rd and 59th minutes.
Freshman midfielder Mary Wright had a shot on goal in the 47th minute,
one of two for her in the game.
Next up for the Billikens is a trip to College Park, Md., to take on No.
4 Maryland Friday, Sept. 2. Game time is 3 p.m. (CT).
