Box Score The
Saint Louis field hockey team was looking for its second straight victory, but
host Central Michigan used four first-half goals en route to a 6-0 decision
Friday afternoon in Mount Pleasant, Mich.
CMU pressed the issue early and applied
pressure, but SLU keeper Megan Ambrose and the Billiken defense kept the
Chippewas at bay. However, Erin Day scored in the 10th minute to give CMU the
1-0 lead. The Chippewas' lead was 2-0 before Day tallied again. A score in the
final minutes of the half led to an eventual 4-0 CMU lead at intermission.
SLU's offense generated more chances in the
second half as it earned two penalty corners. However, Central Michigan pushed
across two more goals after halftime and held off the Billikens the rest of the
way.
Ambrose made eight saves in the Billiken cage,
and Laken Gehris led SLU with two shots, including one that hit the post in the
final minute of action. The Billikens (1-2) return to action in Michigan as they
take on Robert Morris in a Noon start Saturday.
