Box Score COLLEGE
PARK, Md. - Playing the highest-ranked
opponent in Saint Louis women's soccer history, the Billikens made a strong
showing in a 2-0 loss to No. 3 Maryland Friday afternoon at Ludwig Field.
The Billikens (1-3) fell
behind early when Ashley Grove, assisted by Domenica Hodak and Skyy Anderson,
scored her third goal of the season at 13:38 for a 1-0 Maryland edge.
That was all the Terrapins
(4-0-1) would get in the first half, however, as SLU junior goalkeeper Katie Walsh (Chesterfield,
Mo./Whitfield) shut the door. Walsh turned away a shot on frame barely three
minutes after Grove scored and added two more stops prior to intermission. She
totaled five saves in the first half.
A solid team defensive effort by
SLU limited Maryland to three shots on goal after the break. The Terps added
some insurance at 61:22 on Danielle Hubka's second goal of the year, assisted
by Becky Kaplan and Jasmyne Spencer.
Sophomore forward Jenny Hummert (Wildwood, Mo./St. Joseph's)
led Saint Louis with three shots. Freshman forward Abbey Stock (Town & Country, Mo./St. Joseph's) had a shot on
goal.
The Billikens remain in
Maryland for a Sunday contest at Loyola (Md.). Game time in Baltimore is noon
(CT). Free live video streaming will be available at http://client.stretchinternet.com/client/loyola.portal#.
