Box Score FENTON, Mo. - On a day that Saint Louis field
hockey honored its seniors, Caitlin
Brenner and Lexie Lindblad, the
Billikens had perhaps one of their best games of the season but were unable to
pull out the victory, falling 4-3 in a thriller against La Salle Friday at
Soccer Park.
The
Billikens (1-18, 0-6 Atlantic 10 Conference) tied their season high with three
goals. Lindblad, Alanah Busby and Clanci MacKenzie all scored, and SLU
out-shot La Salle (8-10, 3-3 A-10) 15-10 while also holding a 6-5 advantage in
penalty corners.
La Salle
opened the scoring just two minutes into the contest, but SLU answered quickly
when Lindblad notched her team-leading sixth goal of the season at the 3:41
mark.
La Salle
would score twice more to take a 3-1 advantage into halftime. Busby trimmed the
SLU deficit to one when she scored at 54:29, making it 3-2 Explorers.
But Mariel
Papa scored the eventual game winner and her second goal of the contest at the
64:03 mark.
SLU made it
interesting late, getting a goal from MacKenzie with just under five minutes to
go to make it a one-goal game once again. The Billikens applied pressure and
even had a penalty corner with the clock at zeros, but the La Salle defense
fought off the chances and the Explorers escaped with the win.
Saint Louis
concludes the regular season Sunday at VCU. Game time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
(CT).
