ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis University head men's
soccer coach Mike McGinty has been
named the 2012 recipient of the Carl O. Bauer Award, presented by the Missouri
Athletic Club.
The award,
which was established in 1978, is presented annually to the top amateur sports
figure in the St. Louis area. McGinty will receive the honor at the 43rd annual
Jack Buck Awards Banquet Tuesday, Dec. 11, at the Missouri Athletic Club in
downtown St. Louis. He will be introduced by SLU director of athletics Chris May.
The banquet
is open to the public. The event will begin with cocktails at 6 p.m., followed
by dinner at 7 p.m. and the program at 8 p.m. Other honorees who will be in
attendance include Steven Jackson and Joe Buck. Admission is $125. Please call

McGinty,
the Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Soccer Coach of the Year, led the storied
Billiken program back to the NCAA Tournament in 2012. Saint Louis registered 16
wins this season, the most since the 2001 club posted 18. As the No. 2 seed in
the A-10 Tournament, the Billikens won three games in four days to secure their
second A-10 title.
The
Billikens received the No. 8 national seed in the NCAA Tournament, which
resulted in a first-round bye. Additional highlights during the 2012 slate
include the Billikens entering the national rankings, as well as recording
their best RPI ranking ever. In addition, SLU had four victories against ranked
foes.
McGinty is
the 10th Saint Louis University representative to receive the Carl O. Bauer
Award, which is named in honor of the MAC's Athletic Director who brought
innovation and inspiration to the Club during his 45 years of service. Former
SLU honorees are Anne Kordes (2009),
Cheryl Levick (2006), Marque Perry (2003), Doug Woolard (2002), Larry Hughes (1998), Erwin Claggett, Scott Highmark and H Waldman
(1995), and Anthony Bonner
(1990).
