FORT MYERS, Fla. - Boston College scored two
runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and another in the eighth to defeat
Saint Louis 5-4 Saturday afternoon at the Florida Gulf Coast University
Tournament.
Katie Kroeger was 2-for-4, Kelly Flanagan had a two-run double and
Jessica Van Nostrand collected an
RBI single to lead the Billikens (6-4) at the plate. Jessica Buschjost, Erin Harcar,
Kelsey Biggs and Kerri Dockins all singled for Saint
Louis.
SLU
took a 1-0 lead in the first. Kroeger singled with one out, stole second and
came around to score when the Boston College catcher threw wildly. BC tied it
with an unearned run off Kelcie Matesa
(2-2) in the second and went on top 2-1 with another tally in the fourth.
The
Billikens broke through for three runs in the fifth. Buschjost led off with a
walk and scooted to second on Kroeger's single. After Buschjost swiped third
with one out, Flanagan banged her two-run double to right center for a 3-2 SLU
advantage.
Liz Jones pinch ran for Flanagan and
moved to third when Laura Bohning
reached on an error. Jones scored on Van Nostrand's bunt single to make it 4-2.
But
in the seventh, Boston College (2-1) pulled even on Chelsea LoBue's pinch-hit
two-run home run. Saint Louis had runners at first and third in the top of the
eighth but didn't score, setting the stage for the bottom of the frame. Andrea
Filler promptly delivered a single to right to score Brittany Wilkins, who
began the inning on second base per the international tiebreaker rule.
Matesa
went the distance and struck out five while allowing three earned runs, six
hits and two walks.
The
Billikens conclude the tournament Sunday with a game against Delaware at 8 a.m.
(CT).
