Box Score ST. LOUIS – Sophomore goalkeeper Hanna Benben posted her first career shutout and made a career-high-tying six saves, and Saint Louis scored all its goals in the first half in a 3-0 Atlantic 10 Conference victory over Duquesne Friday night at Robert R. Hermann Stadium.
The Billikens improved to 4-9-1 overall and 3-1 in the A-10. The 3-1 league record is SLU's best through four games since the 2007 squad went 3-0-1. Duquesne fell to 5-5-1, 1-1.
Senior defender Jessie Jarrett gave Saint Louis the only goal it would need at the 10:20 mark. On a free kick from 30 yards away, Jarrett lofted the ball over the head of Duquesne keeper Devon Tabata and into the net for a 1-0 Billiken lead. The goal was Jarrett's team-leading third of the season.
Sophomore midfielder Jamie Borges doubled the lead with her first goal of the year at 22:53. Taking senior midfielder Tori Belgeri's cross from the right side, Borges beat Tabata from six yards out. The assist was Belgeri's first as a Billiken.
Sophomore forward Livi Logan-Wood made it 3-0, and tied Jarrett for the team lead, with her third marker of the year at 40:48. With senior forward Maddie Gebauer collecting her second assist of the season, Logan-Wood tucked a shot from the left corner of the six-yard box inside the near post.
The shutout was the Bills' second of the season, both coming in A-10 action.
The Billikens begin the second half of their eight-game conference schedule Sunday, Oct. 13, by welcoming Massachusetts to Hermann Stadium. First whistle is slated for noon.
