Jeffers and Alexander Score in Loss to VCU

ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis freshman Meredith Jeffers and junior Jami Alexander each tallied their second goals of the season in a 5-2 loss to VCU. They are tied for the fourth-most goals on the team. With the loss, the Billikens fall to 1-14 on the year. 

VCU scored in the 22nd minute to take a 1-0 lead to the half. 

In the second half, both teams went on an offensive explosion. The Rams scored their second goal of the game in the 43rd minute. Saint Louis quickly responded with its first goal of the game in the 45th minute. Alanah Busby made a 30-yard run down the right side of the field. She passed to a wide open Jeffers in the middle of the field. Jeffers took the one-timer and scored, bringing SLU within a goal.

In the 50th, VCU scored again, bringing the score to 3-1.

Alexander scored in the 53rd minute off a rebound in front of the cage. With just over 16 minutes to play, VCU held a 3-2 lead.

The Rams scored two goals in the final 10 minutes of play to escape Saint Louis with a 5-2 win. 

Despite picking up the loss, goalie Tori Westhead managed to collect 12 saves in goal.

The Billikens are back in action on Sunday, Oct. 20 when they host the Spiders of Richmond. The contest will also be Senior Day as head coach Lauren Bruce and director of athletics Chris May will honor the senior class in a pregame ceremony. First whistle is scheduled for noon.
