Box Score RICHMOND, Va. – Freshman forward Kirsten Clemens scored her first collegiate goal early in the first half, and Saint Louis made it stand for a 1-0 Atlantic 10 Conference victory over Richmond Friday night at Robins Stadium.
Clemens dribbled up the field and fired a 25-yard shot past Richmond goalkeeper Emily Kelly at the 7:31 mark.
The Billikens (3-8-1, 2-0 A-10) were a player short for the final 46:42 after their starting goalkeeper drew a red card. Junior forward Lindsay Elking, with help from a SLU defense that withstood relentless pressure throughout the second half, stepped in and turned away all four shots on goal she faced.
Richmond slipped to 3-7-2 overall and 0-2 in league play.
The Billikens remain on the East Coast to take on new A-10 member George Mason in Fairfax, Va., on Sunday. Game time is 2 p.m. (CT).
