Jenny Hummert and Livi Logan-Wood scored a goal apiece, while Jamei Borges collected two assists. Hanna Benben made three saves and registered her first collegiate victory in goal.

HEAD COACH KATIE SHIELDSKatie Shields, the third head coach in Saint Louis women's soccer history, is in her first season guiding the Billikens. Shields was a SLU assistant coach last year. Prior to her arrival at Saint Louis, Shields spent two seasons as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Northwestern. She served three years in the same capacities at her alma mater, Harvard, where she helped guide the Crimson to Ivy League titles and NCAA Championship berths in 2008 and 2009. Shields began her coaching career with a one-year stint as an assistant at Cal Irvine. In addition to her collegiate coaching experience, she served as assistant goalkeeping coach for the Boston Breakers of Women's Professional Soccer in 2009; head coach of the Boston Bolts F.C. girls' youth clubs for two years; and camp director/senior staff member of Soccerplus Goalkeeper School from 2006-11. Earlier this year, she served as an assistant coach for the U.S. Under-18 Women's National Team. Shields is a 2006 graduate of Harvard with a bachelor's degree in government. She is joined on the sideline by four newcomers to the staff – assistant coaches Scott Gloden and Vince Gentile, volunteer assistant Anne Gloden and graduate assistant Maggie Baumann.

SCOUTING DEPAUL – The Blue Demons welcome back nine starters and eight additional players from last season's 9-10-2 squad that posted a 3-6-1 record in Big East Conference play (fifth place, National Division). DePaul opened the season Friday night with a 1-0 loss at Valparaiso. Four of the Blue Demons' top five scorers from 2012 are back – Elise Wyatt (5G, 1A), Ashleigh Goddard (3G, 4A), Amber Paul (3G, 1A) and Natasa Radosavljevic (2G, 3A). DePaul also returns both goalkeepers from last year. Megan Pyrz logged the bulk of the action and registered a 0.86 GAA, while Alejandria Godinez turned in a 0.62 GAA in 290 minutes.

SERIES HISTORY – The Billikens lead the all-time series 10-1-1, including a 6-0 ledger in St. Louis. Nine of SLU's 10 victories have been shutouts, including the first eight games in the series. The Blue Demons defeated the Billikens 2-0 in Chicago last season in the first non-conference meeting between the teams; the first 11 matches were Conference USA contests.

UP NEXT – The Billikens play their first road game of the season Friday, Aug. 30, against Arkansas. Kickoff in Fayetteville, Ark., is set for 7 p.m.
