ABOUT THE BILLIKENS – Senior midfielder Jenny Hummert and junior defender Maddy Bush lead Saint Louis with two goals apiece. Senior defender Jessie Jarrett, sophomore forward Livi Logan-Wood and freshman forward Cristina Rodriguez have a goal and an assist each. Sophomore midfielder Jamei Borges has two assists, while freshman midfielder Tori Marshall owns one helper.
LAST TIME OUT – Jessie Jarrett scored her first goal of the season and Livi Logan-Wood tallied her first collegiate assist in the Billikens' 4-1 loss at Illinois State Sept. 17.
HEAD COACH KATIE SHIELDS – Katie Shields is in her first season as the Billikens' head coach after serving as a SLU assistant coach last year. Shields is joined on the sideline by four newcomers to the staff – assistant coaches Scott Gloden and Vince Gentile, volunteer assistant Anne Gloden and senior graduate manager Maggie Baumann.
SCOUTING UT MARTIN – The Skyhawks have eight starters back from last season's 13-6-3 squad that won the Ohio Valley Conference regular-season title (8-1-1), captured the league tournament crown and made a second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. Five All-Conference players are among the returnees – senior midfielder Hannah McGowen (first team), junior goalkeeper Mariah Klenke (first team), junior defender Ashley Reveiz (first team), sophomore forward Saphyra Coombs-James (first team, Freshman of the Year) and junior forward Alyssa Curtis (second team). Coombs-James, however, will miss the entire season due to injury after scoring a team-high 10 goals a year ago.
THE UT MARTIN SERIES – The Billikens and Skyhawks have met twice. SLU registered a 12-0 victory at home in 1998 and a 7-0 win the following year in Martin, Tenn.
UP NEXT – The Billikens play their final non-conference game of the season Sunday, Sept. 22, a home contest against Iowa State that kicks off at noon.
