Billikens Drop Tough Contest to Bryant

Box Score

ST. LOUIS - The Saint Louis field hockey team tied a season high with two goals scored, but ultimately fell to Bryant 3-2. Faith Mackin and Jenell Murphy each scored goals for the Billikens. Jami Alexander and Mackin added the assists. SLU falls to 0-7 on the year.

The Billikens fell into an early 0-2 hole when the Bulldogs scored twice in the first 12 minutes of the game. Murphy responded with a goal scored right in front of the Bryant net on a pass from Mackin, bringing the score to 1-2. The Bulldogs added an additional goal right before halftime to lead 3-1 into the break.

Mackin continued to excel against the Bryant defenders on SLU's second goal. Alexander beat the Bryant defenders down the right side, and Mackin cut to the goal. Alexander timed the pass perfectly for Mackin to put the ball into the net early in the second half.

Mackin now has a team-best two goals this season. With her assist, she also leads the team with five points this year.

The Billikens return to action on Sept. 22 when they host Ball State at Soccer Park. First whistle is slated for 1 p.m.
