Box Score ST. LOUIS - The Saint Louis field hockey team lost a heartbreaker to Georgetown in overtime, 3-4. The Billikens are now 1-9 on the year.
The Bills jumped out to an early lead on a Jami Alexander goal in the second minute. Faith Mackin sent the ball in across the circle to a wide open Alexander, who finished in front for her first goal of the year.
Georgetown equalized with a goal right before halftime, leaving a 1-1 tie at the break.
The Hoyas took a lead in the second in the 45th minute, but SLU quickly responded. In the 47th minute, Caitlin Gibson took a corner, sending the ball to Caiti Brownell, who settled for Lisa Smith to take the shot and tie the game. It was her third goal of the season.
Georgetown regained the lead in the 51st minute. The Billikens battled back, scoring in the 65th. Gibson took a shot from just outside the circle and Mackin deflected the ball into the back of the net. The goal was Mackin's third of the year, tying Smith for the team lead.
The Bills held on to force overtime, but the Hoyas were able to capitalize in the 81st minute to defeat SLU.
The Saint Louis offense was peppering the Georgetown goalie all game, outshooting the Hoyas 21-10. The Billikens also drew 12 corners to four for GU.
SLU has a short break before heading to Springfield, Mo. to take on the Bears of Missouri State on Oct. 1.
