CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Several Billikens achieved personal bests and school records while competing at the Illini Classic Saturday in Champaign, Ill.
Naya Owusu won the high jump and posted a school record in the process. Her leap of 5-9.25 is also the best in the Atlantic 10 Conference this season and among the top 25 in the country.
Also registering a school record Saturday was Hannah Kuenzel, the 10th-place finisher in the weight throw with a school-record heave of 15.18 meters.
Allison Walter finished eighth in the 400 meters with a time of 58.43, while Jamee Holmes was 10th in the 600 meters with a time of 1:41.43. Kita Alvares posted PRs in the 200 meters (25.65) and 60-meter hurdles (8.99).
The women's 4x400-meter relay (Alvares, Walter, Emma Kidd, Hannah Rohde) placed fourth with a time of 3:52.21.
Griffin McCurren was 10th in the 400 meters with a personal-best time of 51.43. Albert Marban and Pat Sheil finished seventh and eighth in the 800 meters with times of 1:58.59 and 1:59.29, respectively.
The men's 4x400 meter relay squad of McCurren, Tommy Whittaker, Nathan Hall and Luke Hibbeler finished sixth with a time of 3:24.84. Michael Reader was seventh in the high jump with a leap of 1.88 meters.
The Billikens return to action next weekend at the Gladstein Invitational at Indiana University.
