ST. LOUIS – Austin McBroom, Ash Yacoubou and Davell Roby combined for 47 points to lead Saint Louis to an 86-59 victory over Harris-Stowe in an exhibition game Tuesday night at Chaifetz Arena.
McBroom, who was 4-of-8 from 3-point range, scored a game-high 19 points. Yacoubou tallied 16 points and Roby added 12 for the Billikens, who shot 52 percent (33-of-64) from the field and saw 11 different players score at least two points.
Reggie Agbeko recorded eight points and tied for game-high honors with seven rebounds, leading SLU to a 45-37 advantage on the glass. Tanner Lancona buried a pair of 3-pointers and finished with eight points.
Markos Psimitis (4-of-6 from 3-point range) and Jalen Fletcher scored 14 points apiece for Harris-Stowe, and Jacob Lloyd netted 12. Vjekoslav Vucinovic grabbed seven rebounds.
Harris-Stowe committed 27 turnovers, eight of which came on four steals apiece by McBroom and Yacoubou. The Billikens outscored the Hornets 34-14 in points off turnovers.
The Billikens scored on five of their first six possessions to grab a quick 10-0 lead. Yacoubou and McBroom did all the damage, notching six and four points, respectively, during the run.
After Harris-Stowe finally got on the board, SLU extended the lead to 19-2 on Yacoubou's layup, a Lancona 3-pointer, two Roby free throws and Mike Crawford's driving layup.
The Hornets used a 10-0 spurt to narrow the gap to seven points, 19-12. Vucinovic ignited the run with a putback and two free throws, and Psimitis canned a pair of 3-pointers.
A baseline drive by Yacoubou and a McBroom triple put Saint Louis back on the right track, and the Billikens went on to post a 40-23 halftime advantage.
As they did to begin the game, Yacoubou and McBroom ignited Saint Louis at the outset of the second half. Yacoubou made two layups and McBroom followed with two treys on SLU's first four possessions, staking the Billikens to a 50-28 cushion.
The Bills extended their lead to 32 on four occasions before settling for the final 27-point margin.
Saint Louis begins the regular season Saturday, Nov. 15, against Southern Illinois. Tip time at Chaifetz Arena is 7 p.m.
