THE BASICS
Behind a game-high 20 points from Ash Yacoubou, Saint Louis posted a 70-57 victory over North Florida Tuesday night at Chaifetz Arena.
SLU moves to 4-0 with the win. North Florida falls to 3-2. The Ospreys came into the game averaging 89.5 points per game and an NCAA-leading 15 three-pointers per contest. The Billikens held them to a season-low five treys, including just one in the second half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-- The game featured six ties and 15 lead changes.
-- North Florida hit three 3-pointers in the first 10 minutes and led 9-14 with 10:16 remaining in the first half. SLU would only allow two more treys the rest of the way.
-- Ash Yacoubou answered with his first of four 3-pointers to ignite an 8-0 Billiken run as SLU grabbed a three-point lead with 7:38 left in the first.
-- The Billikens used another run, this time a 9-0 spurt, to go ahead by seven at 31-24 with 3:10 remaining, but North Florida chipped away at the deficit and pulled to within one, 33-32, at halftime.
-- North Florida scored the first four points to begin the second half, and the teams exchanged leads through the first five minutes of second-half action.
-- A 10-0 run by the Billikens, sparked by a Davell Roby 3-pointer, gave the Billikens a lead they would not relinquish.
-- Marcus Bartley hit a pair of 3-pointers in a 12-0 Billiken rally that put the game out of reach, as Saint Louis played with a double-digit lead for the final five minutes of the contest.
-- Meanwhile, the Billiken defense held the potent North Florida offense at bay. It wasn't until the 3:09 mark of the second half that UNF connected on its only trey of the second half.
BILLIKEN NOTABLES
-- Ash Yacoubou led the team in scoring for the second time this season. His 20 points came on 8-of-13 shooting from the field, which included a career-high four 3-pointers. Yacoubou also pulled down 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. He dished out a career-high four assists.
--Â Reggie Agbeko finished a rebound shy of a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds.Â
-- Miles Reynolds scored in double figures for the fourth straight game. He tied his career high with four assists.
-- In addition to sinking a pair of big 3-pointers in the second half, Marcus Bartley dished out a season-high four assists.
NORTH FLORIDA LEADERS
-- Dallas Moore led the Ospreys with 16 points, six assists and seven rebounds. He came into the game averaging 23.5 ppg.
