THE BASICS
Saint Louis used a 17-0 second-half run and held on late to post an 86-75 win at Massachusetts Saturday afternoon in Atlantic 10 Conference men's basketball action in Amherst, Mass.
The win, SLU's second in a row, improves its record to 8-11 overall and 3-4 in the A-10. UMass dips to 8-10 overall and 1-5 in the league.
It was SLU's first conference road win since the regular-season finale in 2014-15, which also occurred at the Mullins Center.
BILLIKEN NOTABLES
-- Marcus Bartley led the Billikens with a career-high 17 points. He was 5-of-7 from the field, 3-of-5 from 3-point range and 4-of-4 from the stripe.
-- Jermaine Bishop scored 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting, while Miles Reynolds scored 14 points (4-of-8 from field, 6-of-7 from line). Reynolds also tied a career best with eight assists.
-- Brett Jolly tied his career high with 10 points. He was also 4-of-5 from the charity stripe.
-- Aaron Hines scored eight points and dished out five assists. Reggie Agbeko led the Billikens with 10 rebounds.
-- Ash Yacoubou and Mike Crawford scored seven points apiece.
-- The Billikens shot 50.8 percent from the field, the second game in a row shooting better than 50 percent.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-- The game featured four ties and seven lead changes.
-- UMass built an eight-point lead before SLU went on a 9-0 run to grab its first lead with 9:90 to play in the half. The rally was highlighted by five points from Jolly, including a traditional 3-point play.
-- Saint Louis led by five late in the opening half, but UMass outscored the Billikens 8-0 over the final minute and took a three-point lead into intermission. Included in that rally was a Davis 3-pointer at the horn.
-- The Billikens scored the first six points of the second half to grab a quick lead, then UMass responded with a 6-0 run of its own.
-- With the scored tied 48-48 with 14:32 left, the Billikens went on a 17-0 run to grab a lead they would not relinquish.
-- The game-changing run was kick-started by a pair of 3-pointers by Bartley. Roby followed with a trey as the Billiken led by nine with 12:47 left.
-- Bishop capped the rally with a pair of jumpers, and SLU led 65-48 with 10:33 remaining in the game.
-- UMass did not go away quietly. The Minutemen slowly chipped away at the 17-point Billiken lead and trailed by just four with a minute left.
-- However, SLU was 8-of-8 from the charity stripe in the final minute of play to put the game away and post the 11-point victory.
UMASS LEADERS
-- Trey Davis led all scorers with 36 points. He was 10-of-16 from the field, 6-of-8 from 3-point range and 10-of-11 from the line. It was the most points allowed by the Billikens since Curtis Withers scored 39 points for Charlotte in 2004-05.
