The Saint Louis University men's basketball team spent Monday evening with new friends from Annie Malone Children and Family Services Center.
Five students, who were rewarded for their good behavior, were invited to a Billikens practice and had dinner with the team in Lorenzini's.
Then, SLU head coach Travis Ford surprised the children with a shopping spree, giving each student a gift card to spend as they choose before Christmas. The Billikens were their personal shoppers, guiding the students through the toy, clothes and electronics aisles. Ford, in his first season at SLU, has partnered with similar youth organizations at previous coaching stops.
Annie Malone CFSC is a multi-service center in the St. Louis community addressing social and educational needs of children and families throughout the area. The five children who spent the evening with the Billikens are full-time students at Annie Malone. Leslie Gill, who earned a master's degree at Saint Louis University, serves as the organization's CEO.
Ford will be partnering with Annie Malone CFSC for an upcoming fundraising opportunity. Be on the lookout after the first of the year for more information.
