Bob Ferry to be Honored Saturday as A-10 Legend

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Bob Ferry, one of the all-time greats of Saint Louis University men's basketball, will be honored Saturday as an Atlantic 10 Conference Legend at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. The ceremony will be held in conjunction with the A-10 Men's Basketball Championship.

Ferry, whose No. 43 jersey hangs in the Chaifetz Arena rafters, accumulated 1,128 points in his three-year SLU career from 1956-59. As a senior, he claimed five different All-America honors, including a spot on the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) first team.

Ferry helped the Billikens to an NCAA Tournament appearance in 1957 and an NIT nod in 1959. A two-time All-Missouri Valley Conference pick, Ferry averaged 21.8 ppg his senior year, the third-highest scoring average in a single season in SLU history.

A St. Louis native, Ferry went on to play 10 years in the NBA for the St. Louis Hawks, Detroit Pistons and Baltimore Bullets. He was the longtime general manager of the Washington Bullets and won the NBA Executive of the Year Award in 1979 and 1982.

Ferry was inducted into the Billiken Hall of Fame in 1994. Last season, he was voted to the Billiken All-Century Team during SLU's 100th anniversary of the men's basketball program.

The A-10 Legends program began in 2012-13. Other SLU representatives are Anthony Bonner, Erwin Claggett and Ed Macauley.
