BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- Marcus Bartley poured in a career-high seven 3-pointers en route to a career- and game-high 24 points, and 13th-seeded Saint Louis held off 12th-seeded George Mason 83-78 Wednesday night in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Basketball Championship at Barclays Center.
The Billikens advance to Thursday's second round to face No. 5 seed George Washington at 1:30 p.m. (CT). The game will be televised on NBC Sports Network. SLU defeated GW 65-62 in the regular-season meeting Jan. 6 at Chaifetz Arena.
Bartley, who was 7-of-8 from beyond the arc, came within one trey of tying Tommie Liddell III's Billiken record of eight, set vs. Temple on Jan. 17, 2007. The seven triples were also one shy of the A-10 Tournament record.
Davell Roby also was on fire, connecting on 3-of-4 from deep and finishing with 18 points, one shy of his career high. Roby added a career- and game-high four steals.
Ash Yacoubou (6-of-12 FG, 2-of-4 3-pointers) tallied 14 points and six rebounds, while Reggie Agbeko hauled in a team-high seven rebounds.
Saint Louis committed just five turnovers. The Billikens had a season-low two turnovers in the first of two regular-season meetings with George Mason.
