THE BASICS
--Elizabeth Everingham homered twice and drove in a career-high seven runs to lead Saint Louis to a 17-7, six-inning victory over La Salle Sunday afternoon.
--The Billikens, who took two of three from the Explorers in the weekend series, improved to 12-18 overall and 4-2 in the Atlantic 10 Conference. La Salle fell to 8-16, 1-5.
HOW IT HAPPENED
--In the Saint Louis first, Alex Nickel hit a leadoff home run for a second consecutive game. It was Nickel's fifth home run of the season.
--Everingham collected her first RBI with a single, and Hailey Weavers rapped a two-out, two-run single to make it 4-0. A fifth run scored on a passed ball.
--A two-run home run in the bottom of the first put La Salle on the board.
--Everingham answered in the second with the first of her two home runs, a three-run shot.
--The third inning was the Billikens' second five-run frame. Weavers scored the first run on a double steal, Emma Buckles singled in a run, and Everingham delivered another three-run blast – this one with two away – that put SLU in front 13-2. The homer was Everingham's fourth of the season.
--The Explorers plated a run in the fourth and extended the game with a fifth-inning grand slam.
--Saint Louis tallied four times in the sixth. Kaylyn Breitbach began the scoring with a sacrifice fly. Nickel doubled in a run with two outs, followed by RBI singles off the bats of Miranda Cotton and Taylor Meeks.
BILLIKEN NOTABLES
--Everingham has hit two home runs in a game three times, the only player in Saint Louis softball history to do so.
--The Billikens recorded a school-record 22 hits, scored a season-high 17 runs and equaled their season high of three home runs.
--Everingham and Mackenzie Peter had three hits apiece.
-- Nickel, Buckles, Cotton (triple), Weavers, Brianna Lore and Alyssa Tarquinio chalked up two hits apiece.
