THE BASICS
• Saint Louis gave VCU a battle, including a remarkable third-set comeback, but the top-seeded and defending champion Rams held off the fifth-seeded Billikens 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 26-24) in an Atlantic 10 Conference Championship semifinal match Saturday afternoon at VCU's Siegel Center.
• VCU (19-8) advances to Sunday's title match to face either No. 2 Dayton or No. 3 La Salle. Saint Louis concludes its season at 8-20.
• Maya Taylor led all players with 15 kills, while Isabelle Walsh tallied eight kills. Kennedy Cordia notched a 30-assist, 10-dig double-double, and Sien Gallop recorded 10 digs to tie Cordia for match-high honors.
FIRST SET
•Saint Louis trailed 9-5, but a 9-4 run put the Billikens on top 14-13. The set was tied at 14, 15, 16 and 18.
•VCU established a three-point lead twice in the late stages. SLU narrowed the gap to one both times, but VCU tallied the last two points to win the set.
SECOND SET
The Billikens led 7-5, but a 15-3 flurry put the Rams in command on their way to a 2-0 lead in the match.
THIRD SET
•VCU scored the first six points on its way to a 19-8 cushion. However, Saint Louis notched eight straight and 14 of the next 17 points to forge a 22-22 tie.
•The Billikens fought off match point at 24-23, but the Rams picked up the final two points to clinch the set and the match.
